Didier Deschamps: Has no money to spend and must look for loan recruits

Sky Bet

Didier Deschamps claims 'tens' of players have been offered to Marseille, but he finds himself sniffing around in the loan market.

Financial restrictions at Stade Velodrome mean the club are in no position to embark on a lavish spending spree.

Deschamps would like to, but he appreciates that will not be the case.

Instead, he will be forced to bring in players on short-term deals to cover the loss of several key figures to the African Cup of Nations.

"Lots of players would like to come here or hope to come here," said Deschamps.

Equation

"We've been offered tens of them. We could have had four or five in training today. But we can't invest, so it will be in the shape of loans.

"It'll obviously be a player who isn't playing at his current club. The equation isn't easy to solve."

Marseille find themselves in a markedly different position to that enjoyed by arch-rivals Paris St Germain, with the capital giants able to dip into a transfer war chest provided for them by their wealthy Qatari owners.

"The power to invest isn't there," added Deschamps.

"Others have it. Good for them."

Deschamps is still hoping that Ayew brothers Andre and Jordan will be granted permission to figure in a League Cup quarter-final with Caen on Tuesday, but he admits negotiations with Ghana have made things 'complicated'.
