Mark Hughes: Set to come up against former employers Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Cup

Mark Hughes was delighted to pick up his first win as QPR manager on Tuesday night, with the MK Dons seen off in an FA Cup third-round replay.

The Rs were pushed hard by their third-tier opponents, with there little to choose between the two sides for much of the contest.

In the end, a solitary effort from Danny Gabbidon was enough to see the Premier League side safely through and end their 11-year FA Cup hoodoo.

The defender's first goal in almost seven years helped QPR to book a fourth-round date with capital rivals Chelsea and allowed Hughes to open his Loftus Road account.

"It was important to get that first win," he told the club's official website.

"I'm told the FA Cup hasn't been kind to QPR in recent years, but it's a competition I've enjoyed throughout my career and I've always treated it with the respect it deserves.

"I was mindful of that tonight, but first and foremost it was important we got back to winning ways and we did that. I'm sure we'll build on that performance going forward."

Schedule

Hughes added: "Given the fact that we hadn't been able to get a win on the board for a number of weeks it was important we got a result tonight.

"In fairness to the players, it was always going to be a big ask given the schedule of playing two games in three days.

"I think you could see that in some of our play. We huffed and puffed at times, but fair play to the lads, they got the result and we're in the next round, which we haven't been for a number of years."

On a meeting with his former employers Chelsea at the next stage, Hughes said: "The prize is a big one now, coming up against Chelsea, but the league is the priority this weekend.

"We'll only start thinking about Chelsea once we've got the Wigan game out the way on Saturday."
