RELICS from the cross the Catholic Church says Jesus was crucified on were returned today to the Irish church where they are housed, three months after they were stolen by burglars, The Irish Times reported.
The relics were found by police during searches in the Irish midlands on Monday. They are believed to have been stolen by three men who used angle-grinders, hammers and screwdrivers to cut them from a display cabinet at the Holy Cross Abbey, near Thurles, in October.
Despite the fact that one of the three stolen relics has been authenticated by the Vatican as a piece of the cross used in Christ's crucifixion, the Archbishop of Cashel and Emily, Dermot Clifford, said it was "a mystery" why they had been stolen as they held little monetary value.
Police are continuing their investigations.
