James Morrison: Has apologised for his goalscoring celebration against Stoke

Sky Bet

West Brom midfielder James Morrison has apologised to Stoke fans for the manner in which he celebrated scoring the opener at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

The Scotland international fired the Baggies ahead from 30 yards in the first half before Graham Dorrans found the winner in stoppage time after substitute Cameron Jerome had equalised for the Potters late on.

Morrison celebrated his strike by aiming an offensive 'fist-pump' gesture with his arm towards the home fans.

The 25-year-old has said sorry for the celebration, admitting he got carried away.

Apology

He told The Sun: "It was a little bit 'heat of the moment' stuff and I didn't mean anything at all by it.

"I've been here at Stoke a few times and I know what it takes to win. When you score it takes you over and I apologise."

Morrison hailed the tactics of Baggies boss Roy Hodgson and feels the manager has inspired much-needed confidence in his side.

"That's what Roy's done - given us that strength to compete," he added.

"We were quite small but we competed with the big 'uns and it was a characteristic performance. The gaffer got his tactics spot-on."
