KATY Perry could have some interesting lyrics on her next album after writing down her feelings in a book since her relationship with Russell Brand became strained.
According to pals, she started putting her heartbreak into songs as a way of dealing with her emotions.
"Ever since problems started to emerge, she penned her thoughts in a diary, which she goes back to (in order) to draw upon for lyrics for her songs," a source said.
"She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her, and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary."
The source added: "She spent a lot of time in Hawaii over Christmas writing lyrics to two of her latest tracks."
Brand filed for divorce at Los Angeles Superior Court last week, citing "irreconcilable differences." The couple met at the MTV Music Awards in September 2009 and married 14 months ago.
The songs for the new album would not be the first time that Perry has sung about one of her exes. She documented singer Travis McCoy's alleged drug abuse in Circle The Drain.
