HUGH Grant has become a dad for the first time at age 51.
The Notting Hill actor said he was a "delighted father of baby girl", but the identity of the baby's mother is a mystery.
"I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl," Grant's spokesman said.
"He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms."
It is believed the baby was born last month.
Grant's spokesman wouldn't reveal who the mother was or the details of the couple's relationship but a source told a US magazine: "He's not with the mum anymore."
Grant has had previous relationships with model Elizabeth Hurley and British socialite Jemima Khan.Earlier this year he was linked to Chinese actress Tinglan Hong, 31.
In 2007 he said he wanted to be a dad. "As much as I adore myself, I'm quite keen to find someone else to care about more.
"I remember reading a Warren Beatty quote when he finally had children and said what a relief it was to not be all me, me, me."
