Danny Grainger: Hearts defender will not appeal against his two-match ban

Sky Bet

Hearts defender Danny Grainger has accepted a two-match ban from the Scottish Football Association.

Grainger was reported to the SFA's compliance officer following a challenge on Dean Shiels during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premier League.

Shiels claimed afterwards that he had been stamped on by the Hearts left-back and branded his opponent a coward.

Grainger was subsequently suspended for two matches and he has now accepted the punishment without lodging an appeal against it.

Immediately

"The club has confirmed that the player has accepted the offer of the fixed suspension," read a statement from the SFA.

"Therefore the two-match suspension applies immediately."

This means that the 25-year-old will miss Hearts' next two games against St Mirren and Dundee United

Meanwhile, a notice of complaint has been issued against the Edinburgh club's manager Paulo Sergio, who was sent to the stand during the same match.

The 43-year-old faces a hearing on November 17 for an alleged breach of rule 203, which relates to misconduct by a member of team staff, including acts such as continued use of offensive, abusing or insulting language or behaviour and adoption of aggressive behaviour towards a match official.
