Dan Bailey is congratulated after kicking the game-winning field goal in overtime

Sky Bet

Dan Bailey kicked a 39-yard field goal in overtime to clinch the Dallas Cowboys a 27-24 victory over the Washington Redskins.

A 26-yarder from Tony Romo to Dez Bryant set up Bailey for the game-winning points after Washington's Graham Gano had missed a 52-yard attempt on the opening possession of the extra period.

It was a lucky escape for the Cowboys, who had been forced to come back from 17-10 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Romo responded by throwing touchdown passes to receiver Laurent Robinson and tight end Jason Witten, putting Dallas 24-17 ahead in a see-saw NFC East battle.

That seemed to be that, only for the Redskins to level matters with just 14 seconds left in regulation when Rex Grossman capped an 89-yard drive with a TD throw to Donte Stallworth in the left corner of the end zone.

Gross profit

Grossman had earlier scored himself on the ground and then threw a touchdown pass to Jabar Gaffney that put Washington 14-10 up at half time.

Gano extended their lead to seven points with a 40-yard field goal, though he missed from 49 yards out later in the quarter, wasting a 55-yard punt return by Brandon Banks.

Dallas, who had dominated the opening quarter but only managed to lead 7-0 on a Dez Bryant touchdown, needed Romo to drag them back into the game.

He duly obliged, showing his scrambling abilities to hook up with Robinson from seven yards out and then spotting a wide-open Witten, who did the rest of the work with his legs to complete a 59-yard scoring play.

Romo finished 23 for 37 for 292 yards and three touchdowns to help his franchise move to 6-4 for the season. Washington, in contrast, are now 3-7 and have lost six on the spin.
