Luka Modric: Harry Redknapp is desperate to keep the midfielder long-term

Sky Bet

Harry Redknapp expressed his desire for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to sort out Luka Modric's contract after the Croatian starred in Monday's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Modric has been in sparkling form all season and was again an influential figure against Villa as a brace from Emmanuel Adebayor secured three points for Spurs.

Redknapp, who returned to the White Hart Lane dugout for the first time since undergoing a minor heart procedure, has been thrilled with the way Modric has struck up a partnership with summer signing Scott Parker.

While Parker arrived at the club on deadline day, Tottenham's transfer window was dominated by speculation over Modric's future.

Chelsea were keen to sign the midfielder and he made it clear he wanted to go to Stamford Bridge, but Levy fought to keep hold of one of Spurs' prized assets.

Redknapp is desperate for Modric to stay long-term and feels the display against Villa highlighted his attitude as well as ability.

Fantastic

"Luka was fantastic, him and Scott Parker have been outstanding together," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"I love Luka, I love the way he plays his football and he's an absolutely top-class professional and a great guy."

Asked if there was any news on Modric's contract, Redknapp added: "I don't know where the chairman is. I don't really get involved in that.

"You've got to keep Luka here. You don't get too many Luka Modrics coming along and we are looking to really be a big club.

"The chairman showed that in the summer. He said he's not going and he stuck by it.

"I am sure he will look after him and hopefully get the contract sorted."
