Slaven Bilic: Has named his Croatia squad

Sky Bet

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has named a 27-man preliminary squad for Euro 2012.

Bilic will have to trim down the party for his final squad, with four players due to drop out.

Bolton's Ivan Klasnic was the highest profile casualty, missing out along with Mladen Petric and Jerko Leko.

Dinamo Zagreb's Brazilian-born midfielder Sammir was not called upon, whilst Under-21 starlet Mateo Kovacic also missed out.

On Petric and Klasnic, Bilic admitted he had spoken with both players.

"It was difficult because they are two exceptional men, I called them on the phone to tell them," he said.

"We have quite a good squad, our results talk for themselves, now we have to prepare as good as we can.

"I would say we are better than in 2008, when we went to the quarter-finals - back then we wanted to win the Euros, and this time around we want to do the same thing.

"We have some problems, Dejan Lovren and Niko Kranjcar are injured. If the Euros started in seven days time, they couldn't play. But I will wait for both of them.

"Four players will stay home, but it is too soon to talk about it. We will start our preparations on 16th May."
