- Transgender Jenna Talackova fails to win title
- One of 60 competitors in Miss Universe Canada
- Talackova initially denied entry to pageant
THE first-ever transgender contestant to compete in the Miss Universe Canada pageant has lost her bid to win the title.
Jenna Talackova, 23, who was one of more than 60 competitors on Saturday night, was among the final 12 contestants. However, she lost to another Vancouver contestant, Sahar Biniaz, 26.
Talackova, who was born a male, underwent a sex change four years ago. A native of Vancouver, she was initially denied entry to the pageant because she was not a natural-born female.
Donald Trump, who runs the Miss Universe organisation, subsequently overruled that decision.
The 181cm blonde beauty strutted the runway and competed in the bikini and formalwear contests.
Biniaz, born in Iran, won 1st runner-up in Miss Universe Canada 2008.
After winning Miss Universe Canada 2012, she will compete in the international Miss Universe competition in December.
