- Photos show destruction caused by Grant Hackett
- Police were called to apartment by Candice Alley
- Hackett told Channel 9 "nothing happened"
THIS is the terrifying damage caused by former Olympian Grant Hackett in an alcohol-fuelled rage at his multi-million dollar Melbourne penthouse.
Fifteen damning photos, all of which are published online today were taken after police received a distraught emergency call in the early hours of October 30, 2011, from Hackett's singer-songwriter wife Candice Alley, who was at home with their two-year-old twins Charlize and Jagger.
The Sunday Telegraph can reveal for the first time the shocking extent of the 32-year-old's furious rampage, which occurred after Derby Day.
It shocked friends and supporters of the star couple and was the beginning of the end of their five-year marriage.
The couple announced their split on May 3 after Hackett was again involved in an alcohol-fuelled night at Crown Casino during and after the Logie Awards.
The shocking images from last October show one side of an interior door ripped apart, Alley's beloved grand piano overturned, plastered walls punctured with large holes from punches, equipment on the ground, a toppled Christmas tree, smashed picture frames and bottles of alcoholic spirits littered across the floor.
The Sunday Telegraph understands when police arrived at Hackett's home, Alley and the children were unharmed but distraught and shaking with fear. It is understood officers were concerned for the safety of Alley and the children. Alley allegedly told police he was physically violent towards her.
Alley said she had no comment when contacted by The Sunday Telegraph yesterday.
Chris White, Hackett's manager at International Quarterback, also declined to comment last night.
The incident happened after Hackett returned to the Freshwater Tower apartment on Southbank at midnight, after a day of hosting the Westpac Sports and Entertainment marquee in the Birdcage at Flemington on Derby Day. He had also attended two parties at Crown Casino.
Hackett, who will travel to London to commentate on the Olympic Games for Channel Nine in July, said, at the time, it was "all a bit of an unfortunate misunderstanding".
"Candice is 100 per cent OK, our apartment is 100 per cent OK and so are our twins," he told Channel Nine days later.
"(We) came home and had a few private issues we needed to deal with, and we have dealt with those. Everything is OK. Our relationship is great."
Alley said at the time: "Nothing happened. Everything is absolutely incredible. We are the happiest we have ever been."
A statement, released as Hackett moved back to the Gold Coast this month, read: "Candice and I have separated. I want to be dignified in my approach to everything and ensure the children's needs are paramount and put first."
