Roy Hodgson: Keen to bolster his squad in the January transfer window
Roy Hodgson has warned the West Brom board they will need to spend big during the January sales if they are to have a good season.
The former Liverpool boss is sweating on the fitness of skipper Chris Brunt, striker Shane Long and midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, who are all carrying injuries ahead of their trip to Tottenham.
His side are currently sitting comfortably in mid-table at the halfway stage of the season.
Hodgson, though, fears a growing injury list could undo their good start to the season and drop them squarely into the relegation dogfight below.
But the West Brom boss is adamant he will not fall victim to any panic buying that has plagued some clubs during the transfer window in recent years.
He said: "If we are going to have a good season we need some help - like all managers.
'I'd like to think we have got to the stage where the type of players that would help us would cost money and would demand high wages.
'I'm not certain at the moment that is the way we are looking to go forward.
'But I'm not interested in bringing extra bodies or extra names into the club unless I am assured they are better than what we have got."
