Uruguay set up a quarter-final clash with Argentina after a 1-0 win over Mexico in the Copa America.
Alvaro Pereira netted the game's only goal in the 14th minute to ensure Oscar Tabarez's side finished second in Group C behind Chile, who earlier defeated Peru 1-0, while Mexico were condemned to a group-stage exit from the competition for the first time.
Porto winger Pereira found the net when chipping in after Diego Forlan's free-kick was parried by Mexico keeper Luis Michel.
Diego Forlan and Nicolas Lodeiro both hit the woodwork as Uruguay sought to find a second goal.
Mexico thought they had grabbed an equaliser ten minutes from time when Marquez Lugo prodded home a free-kick from substitute Edgar Pacheco, but he was adjudged offside.
Uruguay held on to set up a last eight meeting with hosts Argentina.
