Irvine: Back at Everton for a third spell with the Goodison Park club
Everton have reappointed Alan Irvine, as the former assistant manager takes up the position of the club's head of Academy.
The 53-year-old was sacked as manager of Sheffield Wednesday in February, but had previously worked under boss David Moyes at Goodison Park.
Moyes is therefore pleased that Irvine, who represented Everton as a player in the 80s and has also managed Preston, has agreed to succeed the retiring Ray Hall at the Academy.
"I am delighted that someone of the calibre of Alan Irvine has agreed to rejoin the club," said Moyes.
"Once we knew Alan was available it made sense to bring him in as soon as possible and make the change quicker than expected."
Hall will continue to be associated with Everton in a role as an international ambassador, much to the pleasure of Moyes.
"Ray has done a terrific job during his time with the Academy and we are delighted that he has agreed to play an active part in the handover and that he will remain an important part of the setup for a further three years," he said.
