Pastore: Could yet stay in Serie A after Palermo revealed another Italian club want to sign the Argentine
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini claims a rival Italian club are still contenders to sign coveted playmaker Javier Pastore.
The Argentina international is wanted by a string of clubs across Europe, with Chelsea and Real Madrid reported to be favourites for his signature.
He is expected to leave Palermo this summer and could have the option to stay in Serie A, although Zamparini says Juventus and Napoli are not in for Pastore.
"There are five clubs keen on Pastore and one of them is Italian," said Zamparini to Stadionews. "It's not Napoli or Juventus."
The highly-rated Pastore, who is currently competing at the Copa America, joined Palermo in 2009 from Huracan and was the team's leading scorer in Serie A last season with 11 goals.
Pastore is valued at ?50m (45m) and is under contract with Palermo until June 2015, but Zamparini feels his team can cope if the player moves on.
"There is a 99 per cent chance that Pastore will leave," said Zamparini.
"But I think that without him the team will be able to fight to qualify for the Champions League."
Palermo finished fourth in Serie A and will play in the preliminary stages of the Europe's leading club competition.
