Internode announces prices for NBN plans

INTERNET services delivery company Internode has released retail pricing for NBN-based phone and broadband bundled packages.

Prices range from $59.95 to $189.95 a month.

Obtaining 100 Mbps broadband services would cost cost a minimum of $100 a month.

However, the company has warned that pricing for broadband services could easily rise because of flaws in NBNCo's wholesale charging model, compounded by the ACCC's "121 points of interconnect'' decision.

Managing director Simon Hackett criticised NBNCo's wholesale fee of $20 per megabit per month, which is charged at the point where retail service providers physically connect to the NBN.

"This charge has simply been chosen to fill in an otherwise huge hole in the Federal Government policy requirement that the network return funds to the Commonwealth at a commercial rate and in a short time frame (relative to the expected lifetime of the network),'' Mr Hackett said.

This would unfairly impact retail service providers over the 10-year build and growth period of the network.

Mr Hackett said NBNCo had failed to properly consider the full lifetime costs of participation.

Internode customers of current services in Tasmania, which uses an earlier interim pricing model, and of services on the mainland currently provided on a no-added-cost basis alongside their existing Internode ADSL2+ services, would be told when their services would change to the new pricing.

Internode's entry-level NBN service with 30GB data quota and ADSL2+ voice and data bundle will cost from $59.95 a month.

The following table summarises proposed prices for Internode's residential NBN services:
