Punk: delivered on his promise of leaving with the WWE Championship

Sky Bet

CM Punk seized the WWE Championship within the final few hours of his WWE contract.

Man of the moment CM Punk delivered on his promise of leaving with the WWE Championship at Sunday's hugely-anticipated Money In The Bank event.

Punk came out to a thunderous reception and looked on course to become WWE Champion in his hometown of Chicago, where fans held aloft signs that read "If Punk loses we riot"

A hotly-anticipated bout ensued, which featured a number of near pinfalls, and as the clock ticked down toward the expiration of Punk's contract, a worried Mr. McMahon even got involved in the latter stages in a bid to stop 'The Second City Saviour' leaving the company as WWE Champion.

McMahon's actions included an attempted Montreal-esque Chicago Screwjob and a cash-in coup by Money in the Bank contract winner Alberto Del Rio, but both attempts at costing Punk the title were in vein.

As the bout raged on in front of 15,000 vocal fans, Cena locked in the STF.

It was then The Chairman of the Board made his way to the ring with WWE Executive Vice President John Laurinaitis for a potential screwing not seen since Survivor Series 1997.

But, ever the dignified competitor, Cena released the hold and knocked out McMahon's "stooge," Laurinaitis.

An opportunist in his own right, CM Punk sprang upon the moment, dropping Cena with a GTS for a pin that almost certainly caused the world to erupt.

Then, in a last-ditch attempt to take the title from Punk, McMahon called for Alberto Del Rio to come out and cash in his Money in the Bank title shot, to which Del Rio fully obliged, but in a shocking turn of events, Punk nailed Del Rio with a hard right boot to the head as soon as he entered the ring.

As fans around the world rejoiced, CM Punk escaped through the crowd with the WWE Title, as he blew Mr. McMahon and the WWE a kiss goodbye.

The ramifications of Punk's victory means not only does he leave WWE with the coveted belt, but former champion John Cena is set to be fired!

Chaos

Elsewhere on a night packed with drama, chaos ensued inside Chicago's Allstate Arena after a disqualification stipulation made Christian the new World Heavyweight Champion.

During a ferocious battle which could have gone either way, Christian spat right in the face of champion Randy Orton. The gesture of contempt caused Orton to snap and deliver a blatant low blow to Christian.

The move earned Orton an immediate disqualification. And, as per the special match stipulation put in place by Christian's legal team, Orton lost his title.

Afterwards, The Viper launched a brutal assault on the new champion, first smashing him in the head with a TV monitor, then RKO-ing him onto the announce table.

But that wasn't enough for the furious WWE Apex Predator. As he walked away from the ring, he hesitated, then headed back to deliver one more vicious RKO to Christian onto the announcers table for good measure.

Also at Money In The Bank, Mexican Aristocrat Del Rio prevailed over seven other Superstars to capture Raw's Money in the Bank briefcase, while Daniel Bryan captured the SmackDown Money in the Bank contract, securing himself a shot at the World Heavyweight Title.

Ahead of tonight's unmissable live edition of Monday Night Raw, you can see a repeat of WWE's all-action Money In The Bank event from 9pm on Sky Sports HD4.
