WELL that was quick. What was going to be an agonising wait for the new Dark Knight Rises trailer was cut short thanks to the quick thinking of Batman fans around the world.
We already knew the trailer was going to be attached to prints of The Avengers in the US, and then released onto online a week later but a viral campaign hit the web this morning asking for to help in catching The Batman, a vigilante believed to be responsible for the deaths of six people, including two police officers and a district attorney.
A dossier complete with a warrant for The Batman's arrest and a list of addresses where graffiti supporting the vigilante exists could be seen at TheDarkKnightRises.com.
Those who tweeted photos of the bat graffiti or emailed it to tdkr07202012@gothampolicedepartment.com were rewarded with a frame of the new trailer. As more frames became available, fans started compliling them into animated GIFs and posting them online.
Once the full trailer was assembled, Warner Bros, the studio behind The Dark Knight Rises, released a high quality version of the trailer online.
The Dark Knight Rises, which hits Australian cinemas in July, promises to be a spectacular and brutal end to Christopher Nolan's reboot of the Batman story. It features Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Inception star Tom Hardy as the villain Bane.
The last Batman film, The Dark Knight, broke box office records in the US and earned Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar for his chilling portrayal of the Joker.
