IT'S the vocal match made in TV heaven - Prince could send The Voice's powerhouse ratings soaring higher if producers nail negotiations for the royal rocker to guest on the show during his Australian tour.

It is understood Prince has been invited to perform a medley of his greatest hits on the Channel 9 juggernaut on May 21, the night before his third Sydney concert.

He kicked off his Welcome 2 Australia tour at Allphones Arena last night, thrilling loyal fans with a classic set list that included Purple Rain, When Doves Cry and Raspberry Beret.

Like many of music's biggest names, Prince has embraced opportunities to perform in front of huge television audiences - notably the 2009 finale of American Idol.

The Voice has enjoyed a ratings peak of 4.2 million in Australia, making it attractive for A-list artists keen to court the affections of a wide demographic and introduce their talents to a younger audience.

An appearance would also help move the remaining tickets for his final shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Team Delta contestants Viktoria Bolonina and Peta Jeffress have already given him a profile, facing off during the Battle Rounds to his signature hit Purple Rain.

Coach Seal, who is Prince's good mate, will host a suite at Allphones Arena for tonight's concert.
