BRIAN McFadden has wished former fiancee Delta Goodrem all the best with her new romantic life.

But if anyone hurts the woman he says gave him the best seven years of his life, "they're dead".

McFadden said the singer, 26, told him she was going on a date with Nick Jonas, 18, before they were seen in LA last week.

"It's fine; you see it (the photo) and accept it for what it is," he said yesterday. "It was positive. She looks happy. If she's happy, I don't mind.

"But there's a warning from me: If anyone hurts her they're dead."

McFadden and Goodrem announced lastmonththey had called off their engagement andsplit.McFadden yesterdaydismissed rumours that Goodrem dumped him, saying they had simply grown apart.

"I'm a hothead," he said. "If I was dumped, everyone would have known about it.

"It was a completely mutual decision. We both knew what we were doing, we knew it was the right time. It is sad.

"Seven years is a long time together, you become a massive part of each other's lives."

McFadden, 31, also attacked reports that his party lifestyle or their long-distance relationship drove them apart.

He also congratulated her on her duet with Michael Bolton on the US version of Dancing with the Stars earlier this month.

"I wish her all the happiness in the world. Everybody in America needs to know about her and, hopefully, after Dancing with the Starsthey will now."

McFadden says he and Goodrem are in regular contact. "We're still really good friends."

McFadden spent yesterday in Brisbane filming videos for his double-A side single Come Party and That's How Life Goes, released next month.
