- Reports Grease star overdosed
- Actor has history of substance abuse
GREASE star Jeff Conaway was in critical condition in hospital yesterday following an apparent overdose, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Conaway- who also starred in acclaimed TV series Taxi before succumbing to substance abuse that landed him on rehabilitation reality shows such as Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew - was taken to Encino Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles with pneumonia and was unconscious, family members confirmed.
Conaway, 60, starred alongside John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the 1978 movie musical Grease as Kenickie, a member of the T-Birds gang.
In 1980, he married Olivia Newton-John's older sister Rona, but the couple divorced five years later.
He went on to play in the sitcom Taxi as a struggling actor-turned-taxi driver before moving on to other movies and series including sci-fi TV show Babylon 5.
His troubles with substance abuse including addiction to cocaine, painkillers and alcohol, were documented on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2008.
A year ago Conaway was hospitalised after suffering a brain haemorrhage and broken bones when he fell down stairs in his Los Angeles home.
