- Book goes viral, becomes best-seller
- Author announced title on Facebook
- Said it was a whim, wasn't being serious
- The Punch: What parents really want to say
IT'S the book every parent has wanted to write but one that author and father Adam Mansbach announced as a joke.
When heposted on Facebookhe was writing Go the F--k to Sleep, he was just tired.
The book has made a rapid ascent to the top of Amazon's best-seller list on the back of social media sites. Which is great for Mansbach, because the book has not been published yet.

The book'sfunny but honest portrayal of parental frustrationat bedtimehas strucka chord. Here?s a sample verse:

The cats nestle close to their kittens now.
The lambs have laid down with the sheep.
You're cozy and warm in your bed, my dear
Please go the f*@ck to sleep.

But the response was so overwhelming that he enlisted his friend Ricardo Corts, an illustrator, and the independent publisher Akashic Books in New York to make that Facebook whim a reality.

Then the book went viral.

?It?s a miracle from the heavens for us,? said Ibrahim Ahmad, senior editor at Akashic Books told the New York Times, noting that without social media ?something like this would have been impossible even a few years ago.?

The book is being fast-tracked to publication, although there is no set date.
