Viral birthday: Seven years since first YouTube clip

IT didn't feature a cat or a baby biting someone's finger. In fact, the very first YouTube video uploaded seven years ago today was pretty dull.

The 19-second clip titled�Me At the Zoo features YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim and was uploaded by employee Yakov Lapitsky in 2005.

Mr Karim had no idea of the stampede that would follow.

More than 60 hours of video is being uploaded every minute, according to figures released by YouTube in January.

YouTube said it has exceeded four billion video views a day, up 25 per cent in the last eight months.

With the help of Google, who bought YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion, the video-sharing website has more content uploaded in one month than the three major US networks created in 60 years.

So to celebrate the many years of YouTube goodness, here are some memorable hits and a few of our favourite clips.
