Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier: almost certain to be at the 2012 Olympics on home soil

Sky Bet

Britain's Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier had to settle for the bronze medal after defeat in their European Championship semi-final.

The Anglo-Scottish duo, the fourth seeds in the tournament, went down 21-17 17-21 21-19 to Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba of Poland in 58 minutes.

Adcock and Bankier hit back from 17-8 down in the deciding game but were unable to get their noses in front in a tight tussle in Karlskrona, Sweden.

Despite the defeat, the world number 10 pair have still enjoyed a fine week with their quarter-final win over British rivals Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork all-but securing them a place at the London Olympics.

After the mixed doubles semi-final frustration, Adcock suffered further disappointment in the men's doubles as he and Andy Ellis were beaten 21-11 21-14 by top seeds Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe.

The British pair, who are still in contention for Olympic qualification, were undone by the Danes in 33 minutes.
