STEPHEN Parkes is first in line for a new iPad at the Apple store in Sydney but it's not because he actually wants one.
Instead jobs site Airtasker is keen to cash in on Apple?s cachet has paid the former truck driver $950 to wait there until Friday?s launch wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with its logo.
Airtasker.com is an online marketplace where people can bid for the right to earn cash for running day errands and completing everyday chores.
Mr Parkes, 37, told news.com.au while he was happy to pose for the Airtasker site he was doing just fine with his ?cheap Android smartphone? and a Dell laptop.
?Maybe I would get an iPad if I was in a position to, if I had $700 I wasn?t going to miss,? Mr Parkes said.
?But there?s no need. I think it?s a luxury.?
He has been waiting there since 8.30am on Monday after taking up the offer from Airtasker.
Airtasker.com founder Tim Fung told news.com.au he wanted to make sure he had an iPad in his hands on Friday - so he paid Steve to stand in line.
"We've sent him his dinner for tonight and we've had plenty of other people support him with getting through until launch day," he said.
Mr Fung told us that phone company amaysim has answered Steve's call for more credit and the Melanoma Institute is pledging to rescue him from the clutches of the Sydney sunshine.
On top of that, he's getting free Wi-Fi from the Apple store and has been regularly accepting free coffees from passers-by offering to do a java run.
"The task was to get there from Monday morning, and to make sure he gets the first iPad in Sydney," Mr Fung added.
