TASMANIA will be the first state to have its National Broadband Network rollout completed, Premier Lara Giddings has announced.

A $300 million contract has been awarded that will have every home in the state connected to broadband internet within four years.

"The entire Tasmanian rollout is expected to be completed by 2015 - a full five years before work on the mainland is due to end," Ms Giddings said on Monday.

NBN Co has awarded the contract to Visionstream Australia, part of the Leighton Contractors group of companies.

Ms Giddings said the completion of the rollout would create up to 800 new jobs.

"In particular, it is expected to provide employment opportunities for workers who have been displaced by ongoing changes in the forest industry," she said.

Tasmania was also the first state to be connected to the NBN.
