Hugo Rodallega: Wigan striker has undergone a scan to assess the extent of a knee injury

Roberto Martinez is hoping the results of a scan do not rob him of striker Hugo Rodallega for Wigan Athletic's relegation run-in.

A knee injury ruled the Colombian out of Saturday's draw with West Brom, and a lack of composure in front of goal again cost the Latics victory in a game they dominated.

Martinez is desperate for a fit and in-form Rodallega, who scored the goal at Stoke which secured Premier League survival last season.

"Hugo's had a scan and we hope to have clear idea over the next day or two whether he has a chance of playing against Liverpool at the weekend," Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post.

"The injury is far worse than we first thought, because we initially expected him to have been okay for West Brom.

"That obviously wasn't the case, but we're hoping it's not a serious problem because we need Hugo at his best for the rest of the season."

Rodallega has endured a frustrating campaign for the Latics, scoring just two Premier League goals in 22 appearances, only half of which have been starts.
