McLeod: Missed best chance of the night
Macclesfield and Barnet were made to pay for poor finishing as they played out a 0-0 draw in Friday night's League Two clash at Moss Rose.
Matt Smith missed a sitter for Macclesfield in the third minute, heading horribly wide from just six yards, before George Donnelly fired wide from 15 yards.
Barnet nearly struck on the break in the 22nd minute, but Ricky Holmes' shot was deflected wide by Lewis Chalmers' late challenge. The Bees then had an appeal for a penalty waved away as the ball hit Ben Futcher's arm in the box.
Matthew Hamshaw sent a half volley over the bar from 15 yards as Macc' took charge again. The veteran also went close in the 35th minute when his 45-yard free-kick missed everyone in the box and bounced inches past the post.
But it was Barnet who were cruelly denied in the 37th minute when Ben May hit the post only for Sam Deering to see his shot from the rebound deflected past the upright. Paul Downing was stretchered off after the whistle blew for half-time with a neck injury, but Barnet seemed unaffected with Izale McLeod twice going close in the opening minutes of second period.
Top-scorer McLeod missed the best chance of the night in the 70th minute when he round Macc goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell but stumbled as he tried to poke the ball into the empty net.
