ANOTHER royal occasion, another hat disaster.
Prince William and Kate Middleton clashed heads as they took part in Britain's Garter Day celebrations.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a head-piece by designer Philip Treacy, matched with a light blue-grey dress and coat.
Her husband tried to steal her thunder with a black velvet hat with a large white feather, part of the traditional outfit worn by Garter Knights.
Prince William and the scores of other Knights, including his father Prince Charles, were part of the colourful spectacle that attracted hundreds of well-wishers to the ceremony held at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
New additions to the Order are announced on St George's Day but the ceremony does not take place until the Monday of Royal Ascot week, known as Garter Day.
One person who managed to keep a low hat profile was Princess Beatrice, who was ridiculed for her choice of headgear at William and Kate's wedding.
