A US senior political analyst for Time magazine has sparked a social media flurry after expressing his thoughts towards US President Obama on live TV.
Mark Halperin was "led to believe" there was a seven-second delay between the recording and transmission of events on live TV program Morning Joe on MSNBC.
There wasn't - and when Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski quenstioned Halperin on his thoughts towards Mr Obama, Halperin responded: "I thought he was kind of a dick."
Realising his remark went live, Halperin quickly apologised but the mistaken outburst was seized upon by social media users.
Videos of the event are going viral after being featured on popular tech blog Mashable and news site The Blaze and as of June 30, the event is a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
In addition to social media outlets, the incident was also seized upon by mainstream news outlets including CBS News, USA Today and the New York Daily News.
Since the incident, Halperin has made an official apology on air as well as tweeting his regrets.
The video of the apology is also being featured heavily and is on its way to going viral.
