AS her star continues to rise in Hollywood, pregnant Jessica Marais is up for the challenge of balancing a baby with acting.
The Gold Logie winner and former Packed To The Rafters star, who was yesterday fulfilling her duties as an ambassador for Perth-based jewellery company Linneys at their Westfield CBD store, admitted she had a few career concerns after discovering she was expecting, The Daily Telegraph reported.
"When we found out, that was an issue," said Marais, who is engaged to her former Rafters co-star James Stewart.
"But I found that just about every other actress who has had a child and works tells you it can be done and that there is never the perfect time.
"So we are embracing what we have and looking towards the future with bright eyes."
For now that future will see Marais, 26, and Stewart, 36, remain in Australia until the birth, with tentative plans to return to the US where it is expected a second season of US cable crime series Magic City will begin filming late next year.
The couple currently live in Newtown and are hoping to raise their family here, with Stewart still committed to Rafters.
"I think I will always be based in Australia (but) if I could make enough money to have a house in (the US) one day that would be the ultimate ... so we can go between the two," she said.
"But our families are here and we are family-orientated so I think Australia will always be home."
There is also the matter of the couple's nuptials, though Marais said she and Stewart are in no hurry to walk down the aisle following their engagement last October: "The wedding. If it happens it happens.
"We love each other and we don't feel we have to be married to have a child."
