NORTH Korean state media has begun using a new honorific to address the son of late leader Kim Jong-Il, in a sign that the designated successor is cementing his grip on power.
The North's Central TV and the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) started addressing Kim Jong-Un as ``Respected'' or ``Great'' Comrade Kim Jong-Un as they called for unity around the new leadership.
``Standing at the vanguard of the Juche (self-reliance) revolution is Respected Comrade Kim Jong-Un,'' the Central TV said.
``Respected Comrade Kim Jong-Un's thoughts are exactly the same as the those of the Dear General,'' it said in reference to the deceased leader.
KCNA said that even though the senior Kim had passed away, thanks to the presence of ``Respected Comrade Kim Jong-Un'' the movement for reunification of the Koreas would be pushed forward more strenuously.
The junior Kim has also been described as ``Great Successor'' to his late father.
The honorifics are seen as a sign heralding the opening of a new era under the leader in his late twenties.
Jong-Un was last year appointed a four-star general and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the ruling communist party despite his thin military credentials and sketchy leadership experience.
Kim senior, who died on Saturday, was officially addressed as the ``Dear Leader'' after he took over the reins from his father, who died of a heart attack in 1994.
Kim Il-Sung, the founder of the communist dynasty, was described as the ``Great Leader''.
