FORGET about finding Mordor on Google Maps.

Ask the search engine for walking directions from the Shire to Mordor and you are given a stern warning: "Use caution - one does not simply walk into Mordor."

The warning is a take on the line spoken by the character Boromir in The Lord of the Rings film, and has also been adapted in various online jokes.

The new feature comes as the trailer for the new film adaptation of The Hobbit is launched, with the film due to be released next year.

Google's websites are well known for containing "Easter eggs" and earlier this week gave users a festive trick on their screens.

When typing the worlds ?let it snow" in to the search box, the screen fills up with snow and gradually frosts over.

Trailer released for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, due to hit cinemas in December 2012.
