APPLE'S third-generation iPad may hit stores sooner than expected.
The iPad 3 could be released as soon as February -- possibly on February 23, a day ahead of what would have been founder Steve Jobs' 57th birthday and earlier than previous estimates of March or April.
The new iPad will boast a so-called "Retina Display" whose screen will have twice the resolution of current iPads, Citigroup analyst Richard Gardner wrote in a research note Thursday.
Other reports lately have predicted the next iPad will use super-fast 4G LTE data networks.
Other rumours, however, have suggested the iPad 3's launch will be delayed to make way for the spring launch of a smaller "Mini iPad" - possibly in response to Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet released last month.
