THE axe is hovering over Channel 10 shows including 'Sports Tonight' and 'Late News' in the wake of a major network restructure.
Weekend morning television institution Video Hits has already got the chop, with crew on the music video show unable to hide their dismay yesterday after being told they were no longer required.
The future of 6.30PM with George Negus is also under a cloud as Ten sheds a reported 100 jobs.
Which shows should Ten axe or save? Tell us below
Negus and other Ten stars including Sandra Sully, Dylan Lewis, Faustina "Fuzzy" Agolley, and Brad McEwan face a nervous wait in the aftermath of staff cuts.
Jeanette McLachlan, Ten's head of corporate communications, gave nothing away but refused to either confirm or deny talk of shows being axed.
"All networks continually look at their programming schedules," she said.
"Any programming announcement will be announced in due course."
Ten's interim CEO Lachlan Murdoch has announced a necessary but painful restructure.
Mr Murdoch said cuts had to be made because the media landscape had become increasingly crowded and competitive.
Ten has confirmed that programs will be among the casualties.
Mr Murdoch said the restructure would affect all areas of Ten's business.
It is understood that Ten's news division will be hit hardest with more than 20 journalists for the chop.
Other areas to feel the pinch are publicity, marketing, engineering and operations.
Mr Murdoch has blamed cost increases for MasterChef as well as news and Ten's new digital channel Eleven for added money pressures.
Video Hits hosts Agolley and Lewis were not available for comment yesterday. Agolley is in Switzerland, possibly oblivious to the news.
The pair have been presenting the show since January last year, Lewis joining Agolley two years into her run on the show.
The show celebrated its 25th anniversary last month and is the second longest-running music show in the world after the Eurovision Song Contest.
Yesterday insiders at Ten said there were hopes the show would be cut back but not scrapped.
