Doyle: Has tormented Tottenham in the past

Sky Bet

Wolves striker Kevin Doyle is hoping to improve on his impressive record against Tottenham this weekend.

The Republic of Ireland international netted twice against Spurs last season, scored the winning goal at White Hart Lane in 2009/10 and was on target for Reading in their first season as a Premier League outfit in 2006.

He acknowledges that he has enjoyed his outings against the North London outfit down the years, but knows that luck can turn.

A meeting with Spurs on Saturday will see Wolves looking to defend their unbeaten record against a side yet to get off the mark.

Doyle is keen to play his part in helping Mick McCarthy's men avoid a first defeat of the campaign, but is well aware that a Tottenham backlash could be on the cards.

"I've enjoyed playing against Spurs," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"We've done well against them since we've been in the league and came back to get a good result in the game here last year.

Delay

"They've got a great squad and have brought in Scott Parker and (Emmanuel) Adebayor as well so we know how difficult it is going to be.

"I'm not reading anything into their results and they've played against the top two teams in the league. They'll be wanting to come to us after the international break and get their season underway but hopefully we can delay that by another week."

Doyle is looking to kick-start his own campaign, following an injury lay-off, and was pleased to get vital minutes under his belt for Ireland in the latest round of Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Having played around an hour apiece in games against Slovakia and Russia, he added: "It was a good experience playing in Russia and I'd never been to Moscow before.

"The gaffer said to me he was delighted to see me coming off when I did. I'm fine though, it was a different experience with the astroturf pitch.

"It was good because I still need games after missing so much football at the end of last season.

"I need games to get right back at it and I'm looking forward to Spurs. We've had a great start and need to keep it going."
