IT'S hard to know who's running the ship at Anonymous "headquarters".
An Anonymous Twitter account today said an Anonymous YouTube video urging hacktivists to "kill" Facebook was not a real Anonymous operation.
"TO PRESS: MEDIAS OF THE WORLD... STOP LYING! #OpFacebook is just ANOTHER FAKE! WE DONT 'KILL' THE MESSENGER. THAT'S NOT OUR STYLE #Anonymous," said @anonops.
The video had claimed Anonymous would attack the social networking site on November 5 because it was eroding people's privacy.
"If you are a willing hacktivist or a guy who just wants to protect the freedom of information then join the cause and kill Facebook for the sake of your own privacy," it said.
It's sometimes hard to know what to believe when it comes to Anonymous. The structure ? or lack thereof ? of the collective makes it nearly impossible to judge how serious various threats are.
Earlier this week Anonymous hacked into the website of Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defence.
In a video posted to YouTube, Anonymous said it would continue to meddle with the Saudi government until President Bashar Al-Assad stepped down.
"So long as Assad remains in power and retains its ability to torture and imprison their own people Anonymous will continue with this campaign," the video said.
So will the not-operation against Facebook go ahead? Guess we'll have to wait until November 5 to find out.
