- Glamour girl Jen Hawkins goes for gold
- "Accessories are the most exciting part"
- Beauty queen 'loses crown to weight gain'
THERE may have been a chill in the air outside but inside Sydney's Carriageworks it was all about vintage maxi dresses, bikinis and floppy hats.
The Myer Spring Summer 2011/12 Collection launch tonight also featured plenty of vibrant colours, navy stripes, platform heels and peasant tops.
Myer ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins and Kris Smith took to the catwalk for the show, which officially welcomed new brands Sass & Bide, Fleur Wood and Jayson Brunsdon Black Label.
Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins was a clear standout with models draped in garlands showing off gorgeous bikinis in a fruit salad of colours. Wayne Cooper and Leona Edmiston also revealed stunning pieces.
Coopers' collection featured pink dresses, tops and trousers; a beige silk suit and a white/nude jumpsuit. Edmiston opted for black dresses matched with fingerless gloves and head scarves.
Judy Coomber, Myer group general manager of fashion and accessories, flagged four main themes in the collection.
The first is about bold colours including tangerine, emerald, red, purple, fuchsia and gold.
"We love transitioning into summer with strong colour because it gives people a new sense of optimism and enthusiasm," Coomber told AAP ahead of the show.
"You can either wear them clashing, and that might be that you wear a fuchsia dress with a pair of green shoes ... or it might mean that you wear your black dress but you've got a pair of red shoes.
"You can put it together in a whole variety of ways, so it's still very wearable but it gives you that lovely summer story."
Myer's range also includes Riviera-inspired ensembles, with stripes and accessories painting a subtle nautical theme. This was definitely the case with the menswear, with shorts mid-thigh and trousers cropped, paired with jackets and boat shoes.
In contrast, vintage is still popular, with soft florals, maxi dresses and big hats.
Coomber described these pieces as "easy-to-wear" and said consumers will be taken back to the '70s with embroidered cotton tops with "an ethnic peasant feel".
If it is attention you're after, Sass & Bide has you covered, with feathers, flapper-style features and sequins.
For those who wanting to steer clear of brights or who prefer basics, there were also plenty of neutral creations, with flowing high-waisted skirts, casual cargo pants and soft burnished leather handbags.
As for other accessories, the night showcased straw bags, espadrilles (shoes), sky-high platforms, and loads of light-fabric head scarves.
"The accessories I think are the most exciting part of the new season," said Coomber.
