Cillessen reveals Ajax interest

NEC goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has revealed he has held talks with Ajax over a potential move, but is not prepared to spend the season on the bench in Amsterdam.

The Eredivisie champions are thought to be considering Cillessen to bolster their options between the sticks after regular No.1 Maarten Stekelenburg departed for Roma earlier this month.

However, if the 22-year-old were to make the move to Amsterdam he would face competition for the gloves from Kenneth Vermeer, who has deputised for Stekelenburg up until now.

And while the Dutch keeper is keen on joining the Godenzonen, he is not prepared to give up regular first-team football.

"I have had a personal interview with (Ajax coach) Frank de Boer, (technical director) Danny Blind and (goalkeeping coach) Carlo L'Ami," Cillessen told De Telegraaf.

"The most important thing now is what the club says. Only then will we be talking further.

"But I would not be moving to Amsterdam just to sit on the bench."

Cillessen was also thought to be on the radar of Premier League newcomers Swansea but a move appears unlikely after they agreed a fee for his FC Utrecht counterpart Michel Vorm.
