  • Leanne Suter shot with BB gun
  • Neil Harveytackles bikini girl report
  • Both were only doing their job...

TWO different, but equally uncomfortable moments for TV newsreaders this week, with US reporter Leanne Suter getting shot and British anchor Neil Harvey getting shot down.

Courage under Fire Part I

KABC-TV reporter Leanne Suter really likes her job.

Despite being shot in the hand, Suter, in the middle of filing a live cross for Californian TV on Saturday night, battled through her reportabout lightning storms.

The only hint of alarm is Suter calling out "Look at the blood!", heard in the background as a resident talks about the recent storms to hit the area.

Look at the blood!

Cut back to Suter, who not only manages to keep her voice mostly steady, but somehow finishes her report on camera without once looking nervously around for where the next bullet might be coming from.

The bullet was fired from a BB gun.

Lieutenant Mark Weissman of the Fontana Police Department said Suter was hit as she gave the report near the Interstate 15 highway.

Two boys ages 16 and 17 were arrested. Suter was taken to hospital, but was not seriously injured.

KABC President and General Manager Arnold J. Kleiner said they were grateful Suter wasn?t seriously hurt and "could not have anticipated" the attack.

Courage under Fire II

Not so lucky was Neil Harvey, British co-presenter for Prime Time Russia on Russia's largest TV news network, RT.

Last week, Harvey tackled the thankless task of making viewers aware of a gang of bikini-clad girls known as "Putin's Army", famed for their willingness to "do anything for their beloved Prime Minister".

This week, Putin's Army were out to clean as many Russian cars as they could stop on a busy local road and give them a good scrub while staring lustily at the cameras.

Harvey manfully stumbled through the report before finishing with the awkward "And I feel slightly dirty saying all that myself..." sign-off.

Unfortunately for Harvey, he wasn't going to get off that lightly.

"Oh my goodness, that is terrible," his female co-presenter blurted out.

"It's tacky, it's exploitative.

"What a horrible image of media that's projected at certain types of men ... when I try to look at the footage, my eyes close."

Harvey, after looking as thoughtful as possible through it all, then wanders into The Office territory as he tries to take a balanced view, saying that still, "a lot of people clearly enjoyed it".

"Probably males," he offers. "There's a market for it. I would argue."

"Which is sad," came the shut-it-down reply from his co-host.

Cue six seconds of on-air awkwardness. Jump to the 0.40s spot if you don't think bikini girls washing cars is news.

'What a horrible image'
