Lewis: Looking to prevail in Blackpool shoot out

Sky Bet

After winning his maiden World Championship title in January, Adrian Lewis will be looking to add the Sky Bet Mobile World Matchplay crown when the event gets underway in Blackpool on Saturday.

The current World Champion will kick-off his campaign against Kevin Painter and is expecting a tough match against the former World Championship finalist.

'The Artist' recently became the latest PDC star to undergo laser eye surgery, and says he has already hit a nine-darter in practice.

"He's going to be a tough opponent" Lewis told Sky Sports News Radio. "I've heard he's had laser eye surgery and hit a nine darter straight after so he'll be confident.

"But If I can get off straight out of the blocks and take the match to him I can turn him over."

Confidence

The 26-year-old will be hoping to better his best showing in the Blackpool tournament of a semi-final appearance in 2007 when he takes to the oche, and is confident that at his best he can win.

Confidence gained from getting the better of a certain Phil Taylor in recent meetings, such as in the Premier League semi-finals, means Lewis fears nobody in the Winter Gardens.

"Of the last four meetings with Phil I've beating him three times on the big stage," Lewis added. "If you can beat Phil Taylor in the longer format you can beat anyone. I don't really fear anyone now and if I bring my A game I can turn up and win."

Despite his confidence Lewis enters the fray off the back of an exit in the last 64 to Terry Jenkins at the UK Open but the youngster is taking the positives from the defeat.

"In the UK Open I lost to Terry but still averaged over 100, which is a fair average, and Terry was just too good on the night. Going up there as World Champion does add a little bit of pressure to you too, but I've got broad enough shoulders to deal with it."

And the player known as 'Jackpot' thinks that the Sky Bet Mobile World Match Play would be the perfect place to bounce back.

"It's my favourite event to play at I think the crowd is fantastic and it's like a party atmosphere," he added. "It will be great. My Form's good and I've put a lot of hard work in since Bolton and hopefully I can build on that."
