FORMER Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak is fit enough to face trial in Cairo next week, and he will be moved from his hospital in Sharm el Sheikh, a justice official said today.

"It has been decided that the trial of ex-president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons Alaa and Gamal ... will be held in the building of the General Authority for Investment and the free trade areas in the Cairo Expo grounds," the official MENA news agency quoted a justice ministry official as saying.

Egyptian media reported overnight that justice authorities were studying the feasibility of using the Cairo exhibition center to hold the trial so that families of his alleged victims could be present.

The 83-year-old former ruler was hospitalized in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh after suffering from heart problems. Due to speculation over his health, the trial was expected either to be held in Sharm el Sheikh or to be postponed from its planned Aug. 3 start.

Mubarak will be tried for corruption and ordering the killing of protesters in the uprising against his rule earlier this year. More than 800 people were killed in the 18-day revolt against Mubarak's rule.
