Sean O'Hair prevailed in a play-off with fellow American Kris Blanks to win the Canadian Open at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club on Sunday.

O'Hair (68) and Blanks (69) finished locked together at four-under-par after 72 holes, one clear of Argentina's Andres Romero who missed out on the play-off after making at bogey at the last.

In the play-off, the duo were required to play the 18th once again and both players struggled down the testing par-four after missing the fairway with their tee-shots.

O'Hair just missed with a 15-footer for par but tapped in for a bogey-five.

Having raced a bunker shot to the back of the green with his third, Blanks sent his fourth five feet past the hole and then proceeded to miss the subsequent putt to hand O'Hair the title.

Emotional

It was an emotional moment for the 29-year-old who had struggled badly this year on the PGA Tour, missing ten of his last 17 cuts.

It was his fourth career victory and a first since he won the Quail Hollow Championship in May 2009.

Romero (70) finished on his own in third, while Canadian youngster Adam Hadwin gave the home crowds something to cheer as he produced something of a back-nine charge to finish joint-fourth alongside Geoff Ogilvy at two-under.

Overnight leader Bo Van Pelt fell away with a final round of 74 to finish in a tie for sixth with Woody Austin and Scott Piercy at one-under.
