CHRIS Bath's disappearance from Channel 7 midweek has given rise to yet more rumours that the news anchor might be struggling to hold her prime time gig at Seven.
Bath was due to finish her news shift for Christmas on a Friday, but finished on a Monday with no seasonal sign-off, prompting concern.
Yesterday Seven news boss Peter Meakin told Confidential that Bath had decided to go early because she was having a minor operation that would require some facial stitches.
"We didn't see any need for her to come back on air for a couple of days with stitches," Meakin said.
With Channel 7 news losing the ratings in Sydney to Channel 9 for the first time in seven years, there is pressure on Bath and talk that Mark Ferguson will be given his chance.
