A PRODUCT that doesn't even exist and a YouTube star topped a Google Zeitgeist list of hot search subjects for 2011.

Their Zeitgeist list, released annually, is always an intriguing snapshot of what the world's watching.

And the 2011 results prove what many suspect: the masses are far more interested in gadgets and random internet sensations than world events.

The list highlights include a product which didn't exist and a song many wish had never existed.

The phantom iPhone 5, which was released as the iPhone 4S by Apple after months of delays and speculation, grabbed a coveted spot in the top five.

While in a disturbing revelation, tween star Rebecca Black who insulted our eardrums on YouTube with her song Friday, was the fastest-rising search of the year.

Google's own new social network Google+ stormed into spot two after its launch, with Jackass star Ryan Dunn, who was killed in a car accident, remembered in third position.

The death of Steve Jobs and launch of the iPad2 saw Apple claim another two spots in the top 10 list for fastest-rising terms.

And just to prove the world isn?t totally devoid of global awareness ? the nuclear emergency in Fukushima, Japan, just snuck into the list at number eight.
