Doni's agent has confirmed talks are at an advanced stage to bring th3 31-year-old to Merseyside.
Liverpool have been chasing an experienced goalkeeper to provide cover and competition for No.1 Pepe Reina and they have turned their attentions to Doni after missing out on Brad Friedel.
Doni has dropped to third choice at Roma in the last 12 months and the Italians are ready to offload him.
Doni's representative, Ovidio Colucci, has revealed the player would be interested in a move to Anfield.
"I spoke to the club (Roma) yesterday and they confirmed they are holding talks with Liverpool to reach an agreement regarding the transfer of Doni," said Colucci.
"Once an agreement is reached betwen the two clubs, we will begin negotiating personal terms with Liverpool.
"Doni would be very happy to join Liverpool and play in the Premier League."
