Button: Set his sights on victory in Canada

Sky Bet

Jenson Button is determined to build on McLaren's good form when the action heads to the Canadian GP.

Button and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton have come agonisingly close to victory in the past two races.

In Barcelona Hamilton had hounded reigning Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel during the closing stages, only to fall short by just 0.6secs.

Then in Monaco, Button was left to rue a safety car period and a red-flag as world champion Vettel claimed victory once again.

However ahead of Sunday's showdown in Canada, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve situated on the Ile de Notre Dame in the middle of Montreal's St Lawrence Seaway, is McLaren territory.

After finishing second to Hamilton 12 months ago, Button is hopeful a victory is on the cards as he seeks to close the 67-point gap to Vettel in the standings.

Improvement

"There's a real momentum within our team at the moment," said Button.

"I think we had a race car good enough to win in both Spain and Monaco.

"With a little improvement to our qualifying I think we can start to dictate race pace, which was something we were briefly able to show at both of the last two races.

"I'm still very pleased with my performance in Monte Carlo. It wasn't a win, but it was nice to lead the race and be able to pull away comfortably.

"Even if the result didn't match it, that sort of thing is always nice to keep at the back of your mind.

"Ahead of the race this weekend I've never won in north America, but I think we have the pace, development and momentum to have a good shot at changing that."
