SYLVESTER Stallone's son Sage is thought to have been dead for several days before his body was discovered by a housekeeper.
New reports suggest the 36-year-old's body laid in his Los Angeles home for three to four days.
Coroner's officials are investigating the death and it is believed he overdosed on prescription pills found at the scene.
According to TMZ, the filmmaker "lived like Howard Hughes" in a room "littered with junk".
The website reports a source told them Sage had become a recluse and had had no contact with his family before he was found dead.
His body was discovered by a housekeeper, who was told to never go into his room portrayed as "disgusting" and foul-smelling, The Daily Mail reports.
Although paramedics arrived at the scene at 3.05pm, they left again within half an hour and the body was taken to the coroner's office rather than the hospital.
A source told RadarOnline: "I suspect he had been dead for quite a while when he was discovered. Usually medics will be at the scene for around forty-five minutes but they were out of there within half an hour."
Sage was Sylvester's son from his first marriage to Sasha Czack.
Czack is said to asked the housekeeper to go and see him after she failed to make contact.
Sylvester's representative Michelle Bega, released a statement saying: "Sylvester Stallone is devastated and grief-stricken over the sudden loss of his son Sage Stallone. His compassion and thoughts are with Sage's mother, Sasha. Sage was a very talented and wonderful young man. His loss will be felt forever."
Sage Stallone's death was a surprise to all who knew him, according to his lawyer and longtime friend George Braunstein, E! Online reports.
"He was very creative, energetic and very full of life," Braunstein told E! News. "We were just joking about how he was going to get married and have a fun marriage. There was nothing dark or depressing, no problems, certainly no financial problems."
His mother Sasha Czack is devastated by his death.
The investigation into Sage's death is still ongoing.
