- Reports that star's criminal record to blame
BRITISH comedian Russell Brand says he was denied entry into Canada to perform, after earlier this year being deported from Japan because of his criminal record.
"HELP! I'm gonna be late for Casino Rama show unless someone can force Canadian customs officials to let us land in Orillia," he posted on Twitter over the weekend.
Later, he wrote, "Let me in! I must perform at Casino Rama, Orillia tonight at 9 for 5000 Canadians!"
Brand then announced that his show had been postponed.
"I'm sorry. I can't enter Canada," he wrote. "We must abolish the borders between our nations AND our minds."
Brand did not explain why he had been denied entry. In May, he was deported from Japan, where he was visiting his pop-star wife Katy Perry on her Asian tour, due to prior criminal convictions.
In an interview with The Guardian, Brand claimed to have been arrested 11 times.
